Shaddox was an admin assistant and organization program back before the Purge and Clu's coup. He got things done, whether it was managing a new energy aqueduct or getting a friend a drink. He was a friend of Tron's, to the point of giving Tron permission to access his disc. In the beginning, he often assisted Clu with his projects, but found himself being pushed out of things as Clu's plans progressed. As a program of both integrity and practicality, he was a threat to Clu's first regime, becoming one of the first to undergo the still-experimental rectification process. Shaddox became a Black Guard, one of Clu's elite, and was one of the four programs who attacked Tron and Flynn when Clu staged his coup.

During the fight, Tron grabbed Shaddox's disc, and Shaddox manage to wrest back enough control not to resist as Tron derezzed him. Tron realized whose disc he had before the next two Guards attacked.

Shaddox is from an alternate Grid where everything happened the same way, but the circuit colours were reversed. Good guys like Shaddox and Tron are gold/yellow (Tron was a very pale gold, near white) instead of blue and ordinary green programs are red on Shaddox's Grid. When Clu rebelled, he changed his circuits to green, and the rectified programs like Rinzler were a cold blue. Users, ISOs and Flynn-modified programs are still white. Bostrumites were purple.
